Weaving patterns in this Guatemalan region are known for their zoomorphic symbols, such as the Kab’alakot or the double-headed eagle. The Kab’alakot is maybe one of the most profound symbols in Mayan weavings. It symbolizes a being with two heads or perspectives: one that looks into the past and another into the future. It teaches us the importance of living in the present and learning from our actions in order to have a better future. The nature of the eagle is to live above the clouds and to observe the earth from the heights, a reminder to evaluate life from a bigger perspective.
